As you may know from previous posts, I created the logo and brand guide for this company. The client loved the process, so we continued with the packaging design.

Packaging design process

The client sent me dielines from their manufacturer. It first showed the physical size of the package. I understood the further font sizes and the packaging proportion dictated a layout.

This is the point where I want to explain how important it is to have a brand guide before any further work begins. At the brand guide stage, I dedicated time to analyzing different approaches and testing them with the client. I didn’t spend time on content, separate details, or additional elements — the brand guide is about reviewing the overall direction.

This way, we had already approved the color-coding approach, defined the colors, and understood how the packaging should look. It saved time and cost, because the concept was already created.

Typography

Having solid experience, I’ve realized that proper typography and content placement create at least 50% of the design. That’s why I continuously study typography, explore new directions, and treat it with respect.

The combination of different fonts, lowercase and uppercase, and careful kerning creates a balanced and eye-catching result. You don’t always need additional graphic elements — especially in packaging, I often rely on typography as the main design tool.

Label design process

When the client approved the packaging design, they sent me a dieline for the label. It was a small canvas with a transparent background. My goal was to create a clean and readable layout with clear text.
