Creative logo design that combines the letter M with a shoe

Marcella is a women’s shoes brand that combines classic elegance with modern luxury. The brand offers high-quality shoes that are not overly luxurious or sophisticated, but instead feature a clean, contemporary style. My goal was to create a logo that balances classic and luxury elements while clearly conveying the essence of the brand.

I found this project on the 99designs platform, where designers compete against each other to win contests. I often participate in contests when I like the brief and find it inspiring. They challenge me creatively, help me develop my skills, and allow me to explore new design directions.

The brief was to create a logo for a women’s shoe brand. The client also attached several reference images and explained the ideas they wanted to incorporate into the design.

I noticed that the client wanted to incorporate a shoe into the logo, which made me curious about how I could interpret that idea. I also noticed a combination of script-style curves and strong, straight letterforms in the brief. This gave me a clear direction and introduced the idea of combining elements from both styles to create something bold, modern, and sophisticated.

Logo design process for a shoe online shop

To start my brainstorming process, I sketched the letter M and a shoe in Adobe Illustrator. I spent some time exploring different ways to combine these two elements and noticed that the left diagonal stroke of the letter M could be extended to subtly resemble the outline of a shoe. This approach allowed me to integrate the concept in a minimalist and modern way.

I customized the left portion of the letter “M” and added a small rectangle to mimic the heel tip, making the shoe outline appear straighter and more recognizable.

The client told:

Thank you so much for your idea. This intrigues me! Please make the M using lower heels (they don’t necessarily have to be thin—they can be thicker)

I then explored two additional variations of the concept, after which the client made their final decision.

The winner 👏
